“NEWSLETTER”
NOVEMBER, 2008
Msgr. Leslie J. Ivers, Pastor & Spiritual Director
Dear Reader,
At last month’s
meeting on Oct 12th, we held the highly
anticipated drawing for our Parish Holy Name Society
Annual Raffle! The drawing was held during the breakfast meeting
– it was one of the agenda high points! Congratulations to the four
winners of the Annual Raffle. They are:
1st Prize ($1000) Barbara Bondi
2nd prize ($500): Frank Reale
3rd Prize ($250): Jim Walsh
4th Prize ($250): Tara Hickey.
Many thanks to all our parishioners in their support of this raffle!
Thanks also to raffle chairmen Joe March and John Connolly
and the committee for their untiring efforts!

NEXT MASS AND MEETING!
This coming Sunday, November 9th, is
Holy Name Sunday!
Our society mass will be celebrated at 8:30am in the upper
church. After mass, we will adjourn to our school auditorium (about
9:30am) for our monthly business meeting! All are invited! You are most
welcome to attend. Come, have some nice coffee or tea, some
delicious locally baked rolls and delightful buns while you gather
and converse with fellow parishioners. Come to Sunday’s mass and
meeting and bring a friend!
Breakfast Committee:
Last month, we started the wheels moving on a procedure to form a
rotating Breakfast Volunteer Committee. We want to allow as
many members as possible to help out with the setup of the monthly
Holy Name breakfast. Ideally, a helper would be called upon once,
maybe twice, a year. Setup would typically occur on Saturday
afternoons (less than 1 hour) and/or Sunday mornings. Volunteers
could help on either day, or both! Many
thanks to those who have signed up to help out. They are:
John Ward, Barney Reilly, Jim
O'Farrell, Pat Lynch, Bill Heaney, Frank Reale, George Pesco, Mike
Curtin, Peter Tarsnane, John Quinn, Joe March, John Connolly. We are off to a great start!
PARISH BLOOD DRIVE NEWS:
On
Thursday, Oct 23rd, members of our parish Blood Drive
Committee attended the Blood Drive Chairpersons Recognition Luncheon
held at Tappan Hill in Tarrytown, NY. Attending were:
Frank Reale, John Connolly, Anthony Trotta
and Jack McCarrick. Our
parish, St. Frances de Chantal, received a Bronze Award in
Blood Drive promotion.
Our next drive will be held on Sunday, Dec 14th,
in our school auditorium. Details will be published in our Sunday
parish bulletin as the date approaches. At THIS SUNDAY’S MEETING,
Jack McCarrick will ask for Holy Name members to help in the
promotion of the upcoming blood drive. These are ways members can
help: (a) promote at Sunday masses, (b)
make reminder phone calls, (c)
help on the day of the drive itself.
Just let Jack know if you would like to help! We also will discuss
some ideas as this coming Holy Name meeting regarding publicizing
the blood drive even more than we normally do. The need for blood is
crucial, so anything we can do to increase our numbers will help
save lives! Just remember this adage: “There
isn’t a shortage of blood ! ….just a shortage of BLOOD DONORS!”
…think about it.
"W E L C O M E"
to our new musical director, Bogna McGarrigle. We welcome you
with open arms! We look forward to the music ministry and program
you will oversee in our parish!

"Sick & Vigil"
Please keep our Vice-president, Theresa Chirinos, in your
prayers as she battles various illnesses. We keep you in our hearts
always, Theresa! In addition, Jim Quinn has been homebound recently
with some foot problems, but we hear he is on the mend. Also,
please pray for the repose of the soul of Henry DiGrazia, who
had been a long time parishioner and member of our choir. Henry
passed away last month in California, where he had been living for
the past three years. He was 93. His wake was held at Schuler Hill
Funeral Home and his funeral was right here in St. Frances de
Chantal. Several members of our choir sang, in tribute to Henry, at
his funeral mass. May he rest in peace!
"BLESSED BE GOD, BLESSED BE HIS HOLY NAME"
Sincerely,
Joseph March (President), Theresa
Chirinos (Vice president),
John Quinn (Secretary), John
Connolly (Treasurer)
