Religious Education (CCD):

Thank you for your interest in the Religious Education Program. Over 200 parish children from 150+ families receive their religious education through our program. We look forward to welcoming you and your child.

Mission Statement
At the parish of Saint Frances de Chantal, we look upon religious education as a total parish experience involving not just the child, but also parents, families, catechists, and priests that form our parish community of faith. We believe that religious education is getting to know Jesus and learning what is expected of one who chooses to follow him in the Catholic tradition. Our program reflects an integrated learning experience, composed of learning, catechesis, prayer, sacramental preparation, traditional Catholic doctrine, biblical studies, liturgy, community building, and other dimensions of vibrant church life. Through the light of faith, we hope to develop in those entrusted to our care a deeper relationship with God.

Class Sessions
Classes are in session throughout the regular school year beginning in September and ending mid-May. When the public school or St. Frances de Chantal Parish School are closed, CCD classes do not meet.

Classes meet in the parish school (Harding A venue) on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Parents are required to make arrangements to get their children to the class sessions. The parish does not provide transportation.

Parish Registration
If you are new to our parish or not yet registered as a parish family, we encourage you to register your family now. Our parish receptionist is pleased to assist you in the registration process daily, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Rectory telephone number is 718-792-5500.

Registration for CCD Classes
Our parish provides religious education for public school students from Kindergarten through Level 8. It is important and expected that every parish child receive a continuous religious education beginning in the early childhood years and extending through junior high school.

Children must be registered by a parent or legal guardian prior to attending religious education classes. Registration and Student Information Forms may be requested by contacting Ms. Christi Chiapetti, Director of Religious Education, at 718-792-5500. A copy of the child's baptismal certificate must be submitted with the completed registration forms.

Transfer students who have begun their religious education in another parish but now reside in St. Frances de Chantal Parish are welcome. They must follow the same registration procedure as new students and, in addition, they must submit
their record from the previous parish.

Religious Education Fees
There is an annual fee which is payable at registration or in installments if necessary.

Fee for 1 child:

$100 + $15 book & materials fee = $115

Family fee:

 $150 + $15 book & materials fee per child:

2 children = $180, 3 children = $195,
4 children = $210, etc.

Preparation to Receive Sacraments
Ordinarily children celebrate First Penance and receive First Communion in Level 2 of Religious Education.
The sacrament of Confirmation is ordinarily administered in Level 8.

Older students who enter the religious education program without previous formal religious education or education that is sporadic will be required to complete two full years of formal religious education before they become eligible to receive sacraments.

We hope you find this information helpful.  lf you have additional questions about religious education, please contact Ms. Christi Chiapetti, Director of Religious Education at 718-792-5500.
